How to get an e-visa to Saint Petersburg

Citizens of 53 countries will now be able to visit St. Petersburg and Leningrad region with a free e-visa.


Who can apply for a Russian electronic visa?

Here is a list of countries whose nationals can apply for e-visa:

Austria, Andorra, Bahrain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Vatican, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Denmark, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Island, Spain, Italy, Qatar, Cyprus, China (including Taiwan), Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, North Macedonia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Philippines, Finland, France, Croatia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden, Estonia, Japan.


How does it work?

You can apply online for a single-entry visa directly on the website of the Russian ministry for foreign affairs.

Your visa will be issued for 30 calendar days after it’s been approved online. This visa can be used for tourism, business or humanitarian purposes. The permitted stay in the Russian Federation with this e-visa is up to 8 days starting from the date of entry. It’s required to have an approved printed visa and a medical insurance valid in Russian Federation for the entire period of stay. You don’t need any invitations, hotel booking confirmations or any other documents that confirm the purpose of your journey.
The e-visa is free of charge.


How to apply?
You need to fill in an application form on the website not earlier than 20 days and no later than 4 days before the intended date of entry into the Russian Federation. You will need an applicant’s passport, personal data and a photo. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of applying for an e-visa. 
The processing time for issuing an e-visa is no longer than 4 calendar days from the date of submission of the complete application. Read the information carefully before filling in an e-visa application form.

Pay attention!
Foreign citizens can enter the Russian Federation
with an e-visa through air, naval, automobile, and pedestrian checkpoints located in the territory of Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad region. 
It’s not possible to use the e-visa for travelling by train. Railway checkpoints might be included to the list at a later stage.
Foreign citizens have to leave the territory of the Russian Federation only through checkpoints of Saint Petersburg and Leningrad region.
